Yesterday was World Book Day. Thanks to all the parents who put so much effort into their children’s costumes – they looked fabulous. We had a witch with room on her broom, two ironmen, Aladdin, a doctor, a Gruffalo, Max, some pirates, Spiderman, and lots of princesses…unfortunately we seem to have failed to take many photos! But here are a couple.
We had fun reading all the books that the children brought in in our small groups.
Thanks also to all of you who have sent in photos of your family and pets. Next week we will start to print them off with the children, and stick them into an album. Please send some in if you haven’t yet. The purpose is to get the children talking about the people in their families, and to develop their sense of identity. Have a look at the Early Years Foundation – Guide for Parents by 4Children – (also on our Information for Parents/carers tab)
This half term we are hoping to organise some mini trips. Many children are fascinated by shopping at the moment – so our preschool year children (ones starting school in September) might visit Matfen shop; for the younger children we hope to visit the lambs at High House farm.
I have just returned from the coffee morning at Stamfordham Village Hall, with my body scrub won on the tombola! Big thanks to the parents who organised this and to those who came to support it. The main purpose of the coffee morning was to discuss ideas to raise funds for Stampers. This is vital, as there is very little income left over to buy equipment and resources. Please let Siobhan know if you would like to get involved with the fundraising group. Some ideas are to have:
- a children’s disco with hot dog tea just after Easter;
- lunch and stalls before the sponsored Tiddly Triathlon in May
- a fundraising dinner in June
- a teddy bears picnic in June
- a stall at the summer fair – and refreshments at the Early Years Sports Day (same day) – in July
- photos at the leavers celebration
- a wine tasting evening in September
- a hallowe’en disco
- pottery decorating for Xmas presents
Please let us know if you have any ideas or if you would like to do something. Maybe you could get sponsored for something you are doing? And don’t forget to sign up for Easy Fundraising – easyfundraising.org. I’ve only raised £12.95 through it, but it all adds up and our total as an organisation is at £300 – and that’s with not many of you signed up! So come on – get yourselves signed up now – it’s very easy!
Some things we would like to raise funds for are new trikes and scooters, to develop a growing garden, re-roofing the big storeage shed, new baby dolls, new ‘small world’ toys – what seemed like lovely wooden resources we got in the summer have fallen apart. Does this mean we need to stick to plastic? Your thoughts please…. And also let us know if you are keen for us to obtain a particular resource.
